We just love the horses.

Amelia is a lifelong rider whose journey with horses began in 2000, when her family purchased a property in Nevada County that came with two older mares. From the very beginning, she was immersed in hands-on horsemanship, starting right here at Oak Tree Stables where she fed and mucked paddocks for the previous owner, Pete Brennan.

Eager to expand her experience, Amelia traveled to Bishop, California in 2007 to work packing mules through the High Sierra. That opportunity sparked a path that would take her across the western United States. She has guided pack trips in Yellowstone National Park, led high-end tours in Aspen, Colorado, and explored the remote desert trails of New Mexico and West Texas. Along the way, Amelia developed a deep respect for different styles of horsemanship and learned best practices in horse care from each ranch she worked on.

Amelia later took time to apprentice at a regenerative ranch in Montana, where she strengthened her skills in land management and animal husbandry—knowledge that continues to shape her approach today.

In 2022, Amelia returned to California to manage the riding program and barn at Greenhorn Ranch in Quincy. There, she was responsible for the care and well-being of 70 horses across a variety of breeds and life stages. It was during this time that Amelia and Andrew began to envision building something of their own.

In 2024, that vision became a reality with the creation of Oak Tree Stables. Amelia and Andrew are honored to serve the horses and community of Nevada County and look forward to meeting you somewhere down the trail.
